If you require a panel van that is neither too big nor too small, the Peugeot Expert is a great option. Recognised as Medium Van of the Year for 2018 (by What Van?), the Expert comes in two body styles, for added flexibility.
The Expert is available in three Panel Van grades, as well as Platform and Crew variants. The Platform iteration features an open-back metal load space, which allows easy placement of goods or materials. Crew Van and Panel Van models (the latter available in S, Professional and Professional Plus grades, and Compact, Standard and Long lengths) allow flexible access to the vehicle. This is because, in addition to twin rear doors, they each feature twin sliding side doors.
The driver gets to travel in a three-way-adjustable seat that also delivers lumbar support, providing enhanced levels of comfort. A dual-front passenger bench seat, meanwhile, features a conveniently positioned stowage tray underneath. Occupants and load bay in Panel Van models are safely separated by a full steel bulkhead. Depending on the vehicle type and length, load volume typically ranges between 3,200 litres and 6,100 litres.
Entry-level S-grade Panel Van and Platform Cab variants are installed with a 1.6-litre 94bhp diesel engine. This manages up to 51.4mpg and produces emissions as low as 144g/km (Compact and Standard iterations). The most fuel-efficient option is a 1.6-litre 114bhp diesel unit, which returns as much as 55.4mpg and produces emissions as low as 133g/km (S-trim Panel Van models).
Technology and safety
DAB digital radio is included with all models, delivering myriad stations in crystal-clear sound quality. AUX and USB ports and Bluetooth connectivity feature too, the latter enabling music streaming from compatible smartphones – and hands-free telephony. Crew Van models also feature MirrorLink and a seven-inch touchscreen display. This means that the former can make your phone’s display available via the latter.
The Expert is fitted with a number of driver aids, such as Electronic Stability Control and Cruise Control. The former helps the vehicle to combat skidding on a range of surfaces, and the latter allows the driver to set a safe maximum speed ahead of each trip.
