The widely acclaimed Peugeot 308 is an accomplished hatchback that has a lot to offer families and business users alike. Practical, efficient and safe, the 308 was declared European Car of the Year in 2014.
A five-door body style means that access to the car’s rear passenger compartment and boot is always a breeze. The 308 features wide-opening rear doors too, which further help entry and exit of the vehicle. Practical it may be, but this attractive car isn’t lacking in style, either. For instance, it rides on eye-catching 16-inch alloy wheels as standard, and comes with a number of body-coloured fixtures, such as power-operated and heated door mirrors. Furthermore, the latter are fitted with integrated indicator lights.
A smartly appointed cabin provides the driver with very little in the way of clutter. In fact, a great deal of the car’s essential functions can be controlled via a large touchscreen display. There’s room for five adults to travel in comfort, and the driver is provided with a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel that is also rake-and-reach-adjustable. Front and rear electric windows and two-zone automatic air conditioning ensure that establishing the perfect cabin temperature is always easy to achieve. The 308 possesses an impressive 470-litre boot space, which should be more than sufficient for most day-to-day purposes. However, if more capacity is required, simply drop the car’s 60/40 split-folding rear seats to reveal a 1,309-litre load space.
Whichever engine option you choose, the 308 is certain to be cost-effective to run. For instance, a 1.2-litre petrol engine is installed with entry-level Access trim lines, and manages up to 56.5mpg and produces a 114g/km CO2 emission figure. Optimal efficiency is delivered by a 1.6-litre 120bhp diesel unit, which returns as much as 91.1mpg, while producing emissions as low as 82g/km.
Technology and safety
Each and every journey can be accompanied by your favourite audio content, thanks to the inclusion of a six-speaker sound system, which includes DAB radio. A 9.7-inch touchscreen display provides access to this and the car’s satellite navigation system too. The latter comes with voice control and 3D mapping, making it easy to get to your destination in a timely fashion. AUX, USB and Bluetooth connectivity are included as standard too.
Awarded a maximum five-star rating by crash test specialists Euro NCAP, the 308 is fitted with an array of driver aids and passive safety features. Included is speed-limiting Cruise Control, which allows you to set a safe maximum speed ahead of each trip. Travellers are provided with, among other things, seatbelt reminders, ensuring that forgetting to buckle-up is never an issue.
