The Peugeot 2008 first arrived on the scene in 2013, as an SUV iteration of the popular 208 supermini. Thanks to its spacious cabin, efficient engine options and five-star Euro NCAP rating, this versatile crossover makes for an ideal family vehicle.
The chunkily attractive 2008 possesses a practical five-door body style and is topped with roof rails that provide extra load-bearing opportunities. The vehicle features a number of body-coloured fixtures too, such as power-operated and heated door mirrors that perfectly complement your paint finish of choice. A classy Hurricane Grey colour scheme is applied as standard, but there are a numerous optional hues to choose from, including Bianca White, Nera Black and Emerald Green. Last but not least, the car rides on lightweight and stylish 16-inch alloy wheels, which are fitted as standard.
The 2008 features a spacious cabin that benefits both front and rear-seated travellers, with plenty of leg and headroom for four adults – or a young family of five. The driver can quickly get comfortable, thanks to an adjustable seat and tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel. He or she is provided with a good driving position too, with forward and peripheral visibility aided by the car’s expansive windows. A single button-press drops the car’s 60/40 split-folding seats, increasing the car’s class-competitive 410-litre boot space to 1,400 litres.
Entry-level editions of the 2008 are fitted with a 1.2-litre 82bhp petrol engine as standard, which manages up to 57.6mpg and produces a 114g/km CO2 emission figure. Optimal fuel-efficiency is provided by variants that are installed with a 1.6-litre 120bhp diesel unit, which returns as much as 76.3mpg, and produces emissions as low as 96g/km. A good performance balance is delivered by a 1.2-litre 131bhp petrol engine, which produces 0-60mph in a little more than nine seconds, while managing up to 58.9mpg.
Technology and safety
The 2008’s touchscreen infotainment system includes a six-speaker stereo, complete with DAB radio and an AM/FM tuner – and AUX and USB inputs and Bluetooth connectivity. The latter facilitates audio streaming from compatible smartphones – and hands-free mobile communication.
The vehicle comes with a full five-star Euro NCAP crash test rating. As well as all the driver aids you would expect, such as Electronic Stability Control and Anti-lock Braking System, the 2008 is fitted with hazard lights. These will activate instantly whenever heavy braking pressure is applied. Passive safety features include six airbags, child-proof rear doors and ISOFIX child seat anchor points, ensuring that travellers of all ages are kept as secure as possible.
