After nearly 9,000 km of adventure through Paraguay, Bolivia and Argentina, the three new PEUGEOT 3008DKR crews Peterhansel / Cottret, Loeb / Elena and Despres / Castera rallied in this order Buenos Aires by winning the three First places of the Dakar 2017. This historic triple is in addition to the five victories already won on this event by PEUGEOT, and ideally accompanies the launch of the new SUV Peugeot 3008 around the world.
BLUE WHITE RED
Thirty years after his first victory on the Dakar, Peugeot once again demonstrated French know-how by signing a tremendous triple. At the wheel of the PEUGEOT 3008DKR, the most capped crew in the history of the Dakar, Peterhansel / Cottret has carried high the tricolor banner on South American soil through a path full of pitfalls mingling many stages in altitude , Navigation with increased difficulties and a capricious weather. This 2017 edition was marked by many twists and turns. Leaders succeeded each other without ever widening a decisive gap.
NEW RECORD FOR Mr DAKAR
The number 13 is usually supposed to bring misfortune. Few people dare to make them their fetish number. Stéphane Peterhansel could join the club now that he won his thirteenth victory in the Dakar (6 in motorcycle, 7 in car), which allows him to further improve his record. Authors of a quasi-perfect race, Stéphane Peterhansel and Jean-Paul Cottret signed their seventh joint success, allowing Jean-Paul to set a new record of victories among co-drivers.
CHAMPIONS THAT LEARN QUICKLY
For his second participation in the Dakar, the duo Sébastien Loeb / Daniel Elena impressed by his progress, being the fastest crew of the event with a mastery of both racing rhythm and navigation. An engine failure in stage 4 unfortunately cost him 26 min which proved decisive on the finish line. Ranked second, crew No. 309 won, for the second consecutive year, the honorary title of best performers with five stage victories over the ten contested.
FIRST PODIUM DAKAR ON FOUR WHEELS
Seventh last year Cyril Despres and David Castera had the joy of recovering the flavor of a podium they had already known on a motorcycle (5 wins for Cyril and a third place for David). The crew of the PEUGEOT 3008DKR n ° 307 also signed their first special victory on a Dakar in the car and even seized the lead of the overall standings after a very selective stage. It confirms its incontestable rise in power.
Having once again demonstrated his speed, the Sainz / Cruz crew unfortunately could not finish this Dakar when he was about to take the lead. The Spanish duo were thrown into barrels in stage 4 and were forced to retire when they returned to the Tupiza bivouac. Unfortunately, it was not possible to restore car No. 304 in good time.
A HERITAGE DIGNE
Taking over from the victorious PEUGEOT 2008DKR last year, the PEUGEOT 3008DKR has not missed its entry into the toughest rally in the world. Faced with the four-wheel drive vehicles of the competition, the 3008DKR two-wheel drive demonstrated the relevance of the technical options chosen by Team Peugeot Total. Despite unfavorable regulatory developments (reduction of the turbocharger flange), the work carried out over the last few months on the engine and suspensions has borne fruit. Moreover, the adoption of a body from the SUV Peugeot 3008 allowed aerodynamic evolutions which favored good speeds of peak.
A SOLID GOLD PALMARIES
This triple achieved by the Team Peugeot Total enriched the already impressive list of PEUGEOT in the Dakar. It is the sixth victory of the Mark in this event in seven participations and its second triple.

Bruno Famin, Head of Peugeot Sport, Team Manager Peugeot Total
"After a success obtained in this way, the balance is necessarily very good. We place three cars on the podium: it is a great pride for the PEUGEOT brand and for the whole team of Peugeot Sport. The 3008DKR wins the Dakar on its first participation. There is something to be proud of the work done by the whole team, from the mechanics to the pilots. I believe that solidarity and a strong team spirit have been demonstrated in the design, preparation and maintenance of cars. The pilots and co-pilots were helping each other, which we had not seen to such a degree last year. Everyone feared this Dakar 2017 rightly. This tension has prompted team members to work even more together. This is the fantastic result of a whole team. At the level of the car, the biggest progress concerns the reliability. We had no mechanical trouble, if not a little one, somewhere, cost the victory to the duo Loeb and Elena. The performance having been further improved, all this work has paid off. And even if it is necessarily a little more stressful, it seemed unthinkable to give instructions of team. I think everyone could savor the intensity of this fight, starting with the drivers themselves. "
Stéphane Peterhansel (PEUGEOT 3008DKR # 300)
2nd of the stage / Winner of the rally
"It is a magnificent victory for PEUGEOT and I am very happy to have a car so exceptional and that Bruno Famin decided not to give team instructions. It was an open race until the end. There was a big competition internally with four fast drivers but also a competition outside. The race cleared up quickly and we found ourselves four, then two to fight for victory. It was an intense duel. There was a lot of stress but also a lot of fun while driving. It was a difficult victory because, in front of us, we had a champion extremely fast and who knows how to manage races in mind. It was really not obvious. The small gap at the finish shows this. "
Sébastien Loeb (PEUGEOT 3008DKR # 309)
2nd overall / Winner of stage 12
"We had a great race. Even though it ends in a second place, we were in contention for the first place all along. Since the small engine problem we encountered at the beginning of the rally, we have ridden continuously. It was very exciting for us because we were at Block all the time, yesterday and the day before yesterday. It was really a great race. Too bad that a puncture put an end to this fight yesterday. In all, we enjoyed ourselves. We finish second on a Dakar very complicated, PEUGEOT signs the triple: it is an extraordinary result for the team! "
Cyril Despres (PEUGEOT 3008DKR # 307)
3rd overall / 4th of stage 12
"For us, getting on the first podium in a car is like the beginning of something. I am very happy. The whole team worked very hard all the year and if I am on this podium today, for my third Dakar in auto, it is among other things because I have a great tool to work with this car that has Functioned wonderfully. I do not have anyone in front of me: gentlemen Peterhansel and Loeb! I do not have to blush. I have to work and I have to go faster on all types of terrain, especially to climb a step or two on the podium. With David, we're working on it! "
Carlos Sainz (PEUGEOT 3008DKR # 304)
Abandonment after step 4
"I am delighted with the victory of PEUGEOT and congratulates Stéphane and Jean-Paul for this new success. Personally, I am obviously very disappointed with this abandonment. We had a very good pace since the start of the rally at the wheel of the PEUGEOT 3008DKR, which marks an advance compared to the car of last year. I regret that I have not been able to realize this potential further "
