Arthurs, one of the fastest growing companies in Shropshire as measured by the Shropshire Growth Barometer, is also celebrating the production of the four millionth Astra at Vauxhall’s Ellesmere Port factory.
The Cheshire plant has been making the Astra, the sixth most popular new car for UK motorists this year, since 1979.
Said Arthurs General Manager David Goldthorpe: “The landmark production of the four millionth Astra demonstrates the longevity and popularity of the vehicle with 680 produced every day and 34,000 registered between January and July.
“The Astra, which continues to receive praise in the motoring press, has been one of Britain’s best selling and most loved cars for almost four decades which is phenomenal.
“The seventh generation Astra has proved a big step for Vauxhall and a huge success for Arthurs at both its Oswestry and Newtown branches.
“The range includes ultra-efficient diesels and sportier petrol models with the 1.4 litre turbocharged version having a foot in both camps.”
